SUN + SHADOW FOOTPATH MEMORIAL
MEMORIAL PROPOSAL FOR GREYSTONE PARK PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL 2023
NEW JERSEY, USA | 40.8396ºN, 74.4819ºW
Greystone Park Psychiatric Hospital (1876 - 2008) began with a mission to connect mental health with architecture, the environment, and intentional care. Quickly, the public institution became overcrowded and was unable to function intentionally. The 673,700 sq foot building was demolished in 2015. Despite preservation efforts, only a few faaade elements remain.
At its core, this proposed memorial seeks to honor the depth of this place by remembering what was once there and surrounding those memories with new life.

A winding 3-foot-wide path of white crushed stone illuminates the buildingís footprint and brings visitors through the site with a story.
